Benefits

  • LDM offers the most efficient and flexible approach to deliver HDTV and UHDTV services to portable indoor/mobile and fixed receivers respectively using a single 6 MHz UHF channel
  • The advantage comes from the fact that LDM uses 100% of the spectrum and time resources for all layers.
  • The gain with respect to TDM is in the range from 4 to 9 dB depending upon the specific configuration.

Benefits

  • LDM ensures an ultra-robust coverage for the upper layer service (for any receiver within the service area: portable, mobile, indoor, fixed roof top…) and high data-rate service for those receivers with enough available SNR (e.g. fixed roof top antenna).

  • LDM provides an additional degree of freedom to broadcasters: the injection level. This parameter provides a tool to adjust the allocated power and coverage to each market.
  • The transmitter and receiver complexity are minimal if compared with any other state-of-the-art OFDM system for terrestrial broadcasting.
  • LDM does not imply changes on the broadcast network structure
  • LDM does not imply changes on current fixed reception systems. It is compatible with roof antenna installations including those with amplifying devices.
  • LDM can be used in SFNs without additional synchronization requirements.
  • LDM is compatible with Time Frequency Slicing (TFS)
  • LDM is compatible with MISO (Multiple Input Single Output) and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) schemes.
